Artist Statement

SEEING SPACE is the subject of my art with intuition importantly pushing it in new unexplored directions.

The most obvious change in this latest series is the use of multiple drips that act as curtains separating spatial planes. The work develops with many layers of paint which partly obliterates ambiguous marks which gives the art an energized challenging satisfaction.

These paintings have built on the overreaching work of the past dealing with various interpretive approaches to how we see space in nature. Some concepts were inspired by the following: water or glass suggested a layered spatial effect by seeing reflections on or through transparent surfaces; photo images zooming in too close shifting focus of seeing space behind; digital pixels disintegrating imagery which shifts the subject to space; layers of painting leaving fragmented images in a challenging partially covered space.
