We’re excited to share Bonfoey’s first-ever custom made circular frames, and a look behind the scenes at the people who made them possible.
Our framer David Carlisle approached the construction using a subtractive method, laminating layers of medium density fiberboard together before cutting the circular forms. From there, careful shaping and surface preparation created the foundation for a beautiful matte black finish applied by our gilder, Jim Bessner.
Although this was a first for our workshop, the project drew on the construction and finishing skills our team brings to custom framing every day, applying them in a different form.
The completed pair gives the colorful and lively pieces by Cleveland based artist, John Saile, a crisp outline while preserving their distinctive circular shape. It's an exciting first for Bonfoey's, and a chance to recognize the ingenuity and meticulous work of the team behind the frames.
