Marilyn Farinacci — Remembered

9 April - 31 May 2026

Cleveland, OH – The Bonfoey Gallery is pleased to announce Marilyn Farinacci — Remembered, a retrospective exhibition honoring the life and work of Cleveland painter Marilyn Farinacci (December 6, 1932 – July 22, 2024). The exhibition surveys several decades of the artist’s career, offering an intimate look at the development of her visual language and her lasting contribution to contemporary abstraction in Northeast Ohio.

Farinacci’s paintings are grounded in a continued engagement with how space is perceived. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, she built layered compositions in which line, color, and rhythm create complex spatial fields. Networks of marks accumulate across the surface, partially revealing or dissolving underlying forms, while multiple planes negotiate for attention. Rather than presenting recognizable subjects, the paintings emphasize how vision moves, lingers, and searches within structured space. Many of her mature works employ vertical drips that function almost as curtains, segmenting the picture plane and animating the visual experience.

A lifelong resident of Northeast Ohio, Farinacci pursued formal training later in life, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1982 and a Master of Fine Arts from Kent State University in 1983. She exhibited widely throughout the region and maintained a deep commitment to teaching and mentorship, serving as an adjunct professor at the Cleveland Institute of Art and Notre Dame College, and as a visiting artist at East Carolina University. Throughout her career, she earned deep respect among collectors, curators, her peers and students who admired her rigorous yet intuitive approach to abstraction.

Marilyn Farinacci — Remembered acknowledges the artist’s passing in 2024 but centers on her work and legacy. By presenting paintings from across her career, the exhibition highlights the continuity of her inquiry into perception while emphasizing the visual complexity central to her work. Guests are invited to join us for the opening reception on Thursday, April 9, from 4-7 PM. The exhibition will remain on view through May 31, 2026. Admission is free, and all are welcome and encouraged to attend.
