Asher D. Bonfoey (pictured above with wife Della), formerly a violinist for the Euclid Avenue Opera House, created the Bonfoey Company in 1893 on today's East 9th Street in Cleveland. One of the early clients was John D. Rockefeller who later introduced Henry Ford to the burgeoning framer.
-
In 1928, Bonfoey's hired George Moore (pictured above with wife Winifred) as a sales person and later tailored him to become Asher's successor. Moore worked in every facet of the business and became the owner of Bonfoey's in 1939. He brought changes to the company including expanding into the sale of artwork in the early 1950s. George Moore continued to maintain the policy of hiring quality craftsmen and investing in the best framing materials.
-
This mantra was passed down to Moore's son, Richard Moore (pictured above to the left of his father), who was named owner and president in 1973. To this day, the Bonfoey Gallery still offers hand carving of frames and provides gold leafing and custom finishing in house.
